Nathan Thompson | Head Coach
Nathan Thompson is entering his first year as head coach of Men's and Women's Tennis.
As a player Thompson played at Clemson University from 2001-2005 where he was Selected All-ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) First Team 2003, 2004, and 2005. He was Named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American in 2004. He was Awarded ACC Tennis Player of the Year in 2005. He helped lead the 2004 team to the Men’s Tennis NCAA Elite Eight. He was also an NCAA Individual Semi-Finalist in 2004 and the #1 Singles and Doubles Player from 2003 – 2005.
Thompson also played professional tennis (ATP) from 2005-2010 where he achieved a career high ATP singles ranking of #356 and a career high doubles ranking of #287. He won 7 ITF futures singles titles, and 8 ITF futures doubles titles. He has traveled to over 30 countries competing at the professional level.
Prior to Joining Southern Wesleyan, Thompson was a senior professional tennis coach at Junior Tennis Champions Center, which is a USTA regional training center located in Washington D.C. At Junior Tennis Champions Center Thompson coached some of the top juniors in the nation. He developed high performance training regimens, organized practices, and planned and organized tournament schedules. He was also the travel coach for the players competing in International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments. Some of the players Thompson had the opportunity to train and travel with include Mitchel Frank (NCAA Champion, #500 ATP) and Frances Tiafoe (ATP top #60, Orange Bowl, and US National Champion).
Thompson earned his undergraduate degree from Clemson in Business Management in 2005.
